Photography is often seen as a fast medium for conveying information, as viewers can quickly grasp the time, place, subject, and story. However, in today’s fast-paced culture, people have developed habits of skimming images, even when engaging with photographic art that should be appreciated with attention. As contributors to photo-based media, I identified key challenges in how photography is perceived and presented in physical spaces. I introduce BouncyPhoton, a system that projects visually important elements such as highlights, edges, and texture onto photographs to enhance their visual impact in physical spaces. I call this non- destructive projecting method implicit projection mapping. I discuss how implicit projection mapping can be used not just as a method of augmenting photography, but as a medium to reengage audiences with still imagery in immersive and interactive ways.
